President's Message
Dear EFWBA Members,
Our last general meeting was a special one. As promised, we gave Mayor Barr all the time he needed (there is never enough time however) to cover most of the issues that have been on our minds, and the subject of countless conversations and debates in every corner of our community. As usual, he was very succinct and therefore was able to cover everything from transportation to the infamous hotel “opportunities” facing our great city. Needless to say, if you were not there you missed a great opportunity to hear from our Mayor and discuss his views for the future.
If you are in the retail business, as I am, you already know that we are on tough times and there appears to be no relief in our immediate future. We have a number of business and community challenges before us this year…..in addition to an election and a bond issue. So…..my best advice is to keep the faith and remember………REGISTER TO VOTE!!
Also, a note of thanks to all who attended the Development Excellence Conference on January 23rd. Alex Kreiger, Chairman of Harvard Design School’s Department of Urban Planning and Design was the keynote speaker and was incredible. The attendance was just shy of 200 and all who attended said the conference had been sorely needed. The only negative comments were that there simply was just not enough time to cover all that needed to be discussed in the breakout sessions. Perhaps that is a sign that a more “in-depth” conference is needed.
Finally, this month we have as our speaker Ms. Cathy Hirt. She is a dynamic speaker and she will hold your attention……I promise. As with the Mayor, I will attempt to give her ample time to get her points across on some of the more current issues as well as some of her “visions” for Fort Worth. This one is definitely in the “do not miss” category for all of our meetings, so make your reservations early.
REMEMBER….YOUR VOTE AND OPINIONS COUNT. STAND UP AND BE PROUD…. SPEAK UP AND BE HEARD!! GET INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS!!!
