President's Message

Dear EFWBA Members,

It is difficult to believe that we are almost half way through 2003! Summer vacations will soon start and we will be hunting for air conditioning everywhere we go….god I love Texas! This weather alone tends to keep out the undesirables. In addition we can and do boast of everything from rattle snake hunts to wine tasting….now I ask you, where else in the world but TEXAS? AND….nowhere else but Fort Worth!!

It makes me very sad to report that we lost one of our most active members on Thursday, May 15th. Mr. Ken Hughes was a past Board member of this association and more recently very active with the Handley-Meadowbrook Lions Club, where you would see him every Wednesday. We send our heartfelt condolences to Ken's family and wish them the very best life has to offer.

The East Fort Worth Business Association Casino Night will be held on Saturday, July 19th at St. Rita's Catholic Church, in the gym of course. This year promises to be much more entertaining than last, with many more auction items and (must I say this) more professional dealers. So those of you who planned on crowding my blackjack table again….sorry, the worst dealer in the house will not be slinging cards this year. Tickets are available now from any officer or director of the association. Also, we still have commercial sponsorships available which will allow your name to be listed in our advertising and will also get you additional gaming money for the evening. The "Gold" sponsorship level is $200.00, but sponsorships are available at lesser amounts. We will of course accept larger donations if you are feeling particularly generous, and please remember that the association is always working hard for you (see April 03 newsletter).

As some of you may or may not be aware, we have been fighting (along with the neighborhood associations) the Fort Worth Environmental Department and their plans to build an open air household garbage drop-off center very near the intersection of Bridge Street and Bridgewood, just north of IH30. This drop-off center is proposed to be directly behind our Luby's Cafeteria, and directly behind our strip shopping center at the above intersection. What you may not be aware of are the FACTS in the case.
