Longtime Fort Worth civic leader Gyna Bivens, who served on the Fort Worth City Council from 2013 to 2025, has died at the age of 71 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Bivens represented District 5, including the Stop Six community, and was known for her passionate advocacy for neighborhoods across East Fort Worth. During her six terms, she worked on issues ranging from economic development and neighborhood revitalization to quality-of-life improvements for seniors and underserved residents.

Mayor Mattie Parker and other city leaders remembered Bivens as a dedicated public servant whose leadership and commitment had a lasting impact on the community. Parker described her as someone who “truly personified love and service” and praised her willingness to lend her expertise wherever it was needed.

Bivens retired from the council in 2025 as its longest-serving member and remained widely respected for her deep connection to the community she served.
